Braveheart (1995) is an epic historical drama directed by and starring Mel Gibson. The film tells the story of William Wallace, a Scottish warrior who led a rebellion against English rule in the late 13th century. Set in the turbulent backdrop of Scotland’s struggle for independence, the film begins with the brutal murder of Wallace’s wife, Murron (Catherine McCormack), by English soldiers.

Driven by vengeance and a desire for freedom, Wallace rallies his fellow Scots to rise up against the oppressive rule of King Edward I of England, also known as “Longshanks” (Patrick McGoohan). As Wallace’s army grows, they achieve a series of victories against the English, culminating in the iconic Battle of Stirling Bridge. Wallace’s leadership and unyielding spirit inspire a nation to fight for its freedom, even as he faces betrayal and immense personal sacrifice.

Braveheart is known for its sweeping cinematography, rousing battle scenes, and stirring score by James Horner. The film won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, and remains a beloved and influential portrayal of one man’s fight for justice and liberty.
