Operation Mekong (2016)
“Operation Mekong” is a Chinese-Hong Kong action film directed by Dante Lam. It’s loosely based on the real-life events surrounding the 2011 Mekong River massacre in which two Chinese cargo ships were attacked by a drug cartel in the Golden Triangle region of Southeast Asia.
The film follows a Chinese narcotics officer named Fang Xinwu (played by Zhang Hanyu) who teams up with a Thai counterpart named Kris (played by Eddie Peng) to investigate the massacre and bring the perpetrators to justice. As they delve deeper into the case, they uncover a complex web of corruption and betrayal involving both local authorities and powerful drug lords.
With intense action sequences, dramatic twists, and a focus on the international collaboration needed to combat organized crime, “Operation Mekong” offers a thrilling portrayal of law enforcement efforts against drug trafficking in the region.
