Chris Cornell (1964 – 2017) was an American singer, songwriter, and musician. He is best known as the lead vocalist for two highly influential rock bands: Soundgarden and Audioslave.

He was a key figure in the grunge movement that emerged from Seattle in the 1990s with Soundgarden. Later, he co-founded Audioslave, a successful “supergroup.” Cornell also had a notable solo career, releasing several albums and contributing to film soundtracks.

Layne Staley (1967 – 2002) was an American singer-songwriter best known as the lead vocalist of the grunge/alternative metal band Alice in Chains.

He was one of the most distinctive and recognizable voices of the 1990s, with a powerful, haunting vocal style and unique harmonies with guitarist Jerry Cantrell. Alice in Chains’ music, often dark and introspective, reflected Staley’s struggles with drug addiction, a battle that ultimately claimed his life in 2002 at the age of 34.

Beyond Alice in Chains, Layne Staley was also a member of the supergroup Mad Season. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential vocalists in the grunge and metal genres.

Kurt Cobain (1967 – 1994) was an American musician, best known as the lead singer, guitarist, and primary songwriter of the legendary grunge band Nirvana.

He was one of the most important figures of the grunge and alternative rock movement in the early 1990s. With his anxious lyrics, raw vocals, and distinctive guitar work, Cobain became known as the “voice of Generation X,” though he was uncomfortable with this label.

Nirvana achieved massive global success with their 1991 album Nevermind and its hit single “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” However, Cobain struggled with heroin addiction, chronic stomach pain, and depression, which ultimately led to his tragic death in 1994 at the age of 27.
