Mufasa: The Lion King | Teaser Trailer (2025)

Mufasa: The Lion King, set to release in April 2025, takes audiences back to the origins of one of Disney’s most iconic characters: Mufasa. This prequel to the 2019 adaptation of The Lion King explores Mufasa’s early life, from his humble beginnings as an orphaned cub to his rise as the revered king of the Pride Lands.

Directed by Barry Jenkins, known for his award-winning works such as Moonlight and If Beale Street Could Talk, the film promises to delve deeper into the relationships that shaped Mufasa’s journey. It offers viewers a new understanding of his character, particularly his bond with his brother, Taka (who later becomes Scar), and the pivotal events that ultimately lead to their tragic separation.

The cast includes many returning stars, such as Donald Glover as Simba and Beyoncé as Nala, accompanied by her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, making her acting debut as Kiara, the daughter of Simba and Nala. Aaron Pierre takes on the challenging role of young Mufasa, while Kelvin Harrison Jr. brings depth to the character of young Scar. The prestigious cast also features Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Billy Eichner as Timon, John Kani as Rafiki, along with new additions like Mads Mikkelsen as Kiros and Thandiwe Newton as Eshe, Scar’s mother.

The film aims not only to tell an epic story of family, loyalty, and legacy but also to showcase the rich and visually stunning setting of the African savannah. Music, an iconic feature of The Lion King franchise, will once again play a significant role, with new pieces from renowned composer Lin-Manuel Miranda.
