Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018)

Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018) is a crime thriller film directed by Stefano Sollima and is a sequel to the 2015 film Sicario. The movie stars Josh Brolin, Benicio del Toro, and Isabela Moner. The film picks up after the events of the first Sicario, with the story focusing on the escalating drug war between the United States and Mexico. The plot follows the continuing efforts of CIA operative Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) and his mercenary ally Alejandro Gillick (Benicio del Toro).

The two are tasked with combating the rising influence of drug cartels and their involvement in smuggling terrorists across the border. When the drug cartels start using terrorism as a strategy to create chaos and instability, Graver and Gillick are assigned a new mission: to kidnap the daughter of a cartel boss in an attempt to incite a gang war and disrupt the cartels’ operations. The mission becomes increasingly complex and morally ambiguous, leading to intense and violent confrontations.

Day of the Soldado is known for its gritty realism, intense action sequences, and complex characters. The film explores themes of morality, loyalty, and the brutal realities of the drug trade. It has received praise for its strong performances, particularly from Brolin and del Toro, as well as its gripping narrative and well-executed suspense. However, some critics felt it didn’t quite match the impact of the original Sicario.
